I think I’ve found my favorite poet of the week! He’s the author of one of Gene Wilder’s best lines from Charlie & the Chocolate Factory: “Candy is dandy but liquor is quicker.”
Reading his poetry is like giving yourself a warm witty smile. It’s somewhere in the vein of Shel Silverstein and Dr. Seuss, but much more clever, concise, and illuminating. His turns of phrase feel like bad puns, but with less of a groan factor and more of a wink.
Here’s a current fave from his animal poems, which shows perhaps more about me than about him:
The ant has made himself illustrious
Through constant industry industrious.
Would you be calm and placid
If you were full of formic acid?
